An eye witness has told of the horror of last night's fairground ride incident.

A witness told of seeing the spider/sizzler ride collapse whilst watching her friends take the waltzer ride and was relieved to see that more serious injuries were not suffered.

MyNewtown received news of the incident at the fairground in Back Lane Car Park minutes after it happened last night. Several people suffered minor injuries.

Police and ambulance crews attended and the Health & Safety Executive have been informed.

"My friends were on the 'waltzers' at the time, and i was sitting on the steps to the waltzers waiting for them to come off," said Evie Rowe. "I heard a loud bang coming from the 'spider/sizzler ride' i looked over and i saw one of the cars hit the big speaker/light stand on the side, and that started moving back and forward.

"I heard that people suffered from whiplash, as the ride was going nearly at full speed and then stopped instantly."

Newtown Mayor Joy Jones said she was relieved there were no serious injuries.

"All I can say is Thank God  there was no one killed and I hope those injured recover fully without any lasting damage.  One minute they were enjoying themselves, the next they must have been scared to death."
