Dementia group hosts fundraising walk

A local dementia group has been raising funds with a charity walk in Newtown.

Over 30 people took part in the recent Dementia Friendly Newtown Autumn Wales.

The 2.1 mile route started from outside the Siawns Teg building in Newtown and took the walkers around the town and along the River Severn.

“The walk finished up at the Monty Club, where there was a very enjoyable buffet and refreshment waiting for our rambling supporters,” said a group spokesperson.

Amongst the group was Mrs Vicky Morgan, with her two daughters, Rachel and Erica, who had seen a poster advertising the walk in aid of Dementia Friendly Newtown and decided to support it because her husband Terry has been diagnosed with the condition.

Vicky said: “My daughter saw the poster and we thought the Dementia Friendly group was such a good idea we wanted to come along and support it.

“Even thought I had to use my wheelchair, I was determined that we should come along and contribute. My daughter Erica even came up from Ponty Pool to join us.

“We enjoyed it so much, we are already looking forward to next years event.”

Although the total raised by the Autumn Walk won’t be known for a while, the team from Bethshan Nursing Home (pictured) contributed over £550.
