Firefighters using a specialist boat were called out to rescue a person suspected to be in trouble in the River Severn this afternoon.
However, the Mid and West Wales Fire Service said they have now stood down the crew as it's believed it was a false alarm.
Police in Newtown called on the fire and rescue service following reports of someone in the river in the town at 4.35pm.
But they were stood down when it was understood nobody was in distress in the river.
