Powerline protesters in Kerry meeting

An announcement on the proposed power station is expected on March 10 while protestors have until February 28 to voice their objections to the new power lines which would run from Kerry to Welshpool and onwards to Oswestry.

 

The massive power station is tipped for an area between Abermule and Caerhowell and would cover a 25 acre area of the countryside.

 

A small group has been formed to fight the erection of powerlines from an existing wind farm above Kerry and now the village community council has called Wednesday’s meeting to discuss the plans.

 

“Plans for the upgrade have been made for bigger turbines by Celt Power which will now have to have a separate power line to the grid,” said Kerry resident Richard Bonfield. 

 

“The power line is proposed from the Kerry Ridgeway to Welshpool and onwards to Oswestry.

 

“In addition there are six other wind farms under consideration on the Kerry Ridgeway/Anchor area which will also have to have separate power lines but in this case to a Hub muted between Abermule & Caerhowell .

 

“Because electricity from windfarms is so unstable it has to be stabilised through many processes before it can be accepted by the National grid. The Hub will be built over 25 acres and will in addition open the floodgates to more windfarms anywhere in our area of Mid Wales

 

“We have until February to object to the power line from the existing wind farm and as such an emergency meeting has been called in Kerry on Wednesday February 23 at  Kerry Village Hall  at 7pm,” he added
