Staff at a Newtown hair salon are about to “brave the shave” to raise money for a cancer charity.
Kelly Blayney, owner of Blayney’s Academy and manager with Donna Shephard, will be shaving their hair off all in the name of charity next month.
The pair and other staff will be raising money on the 9 September in aid of Macmillan nurses.
“On the day we have our very local and national celebrity Iolo Williams and son coming down to help, Montgomeryshire AM Russell George and Newtown Mayor Richard Edwards,” said Kelly.
“They won’t be having a head shave but showing their support for everyone involved, although we will try and get them involved in the wax treatment which is open to everyone on the night at just £5 and every penny will go to Macmillian Nurses.”
The event starts at 3pm in the afternoon at the salon.
Kelly came up with the idea after talking to so many people with cancer.
“I have now been open for just over 12 months and in that time I was amazed at how many of my clients coming in for their heads to be shaved because they are receiving chemotherapy, even their friends and family ask for the same to show support for their loved ones,” she said.
“We are showing our support to Macmillian nurses because it brings it home how much they do in the community when times are hard and when you need a shoulder to lean on, at this very important time in your life. Every client has their own life story and if we can help in any way we will.”
The Brave the Shave at Blayney’s Academy, will also include a raffle, prizes on the day, charity waxing and head shaving.
