Just a day after Powys County Council said they will raise their Council Tax by 2.99%, there was welcome news for Newtown residents after it was confirmed that their contributions to the Town Council will remain the same.
Newtown Town Council revealed that budget savings in other areas enabled them to freeze its precept this year, meaning households not have to stump up more than they paid in 2010. Powys County Council has said they will hike their Council Tax by 2.99%.
Mayor Cllr Joy Jones commented: “It is very tough for some families at the moment so we did not want to increase the financial burden on them while at the same time retaining the town’s services.”
A band D property in Newtown last year paid 40.35 pounds.
