A Newtown school under financial pressure is to be discussed at Powys County Council's Cabinet next week amid concern over its budget.
According to the county council, Ysgol Cedewain is facing significant financial pressures amid an increasing deficit in its budget.
A report to next Tuesday's Cabinet states the school's governing body has failed to submit a balanced budget since 2015/2016 and it's facing a spiralling deficit due to staffing costs.
"The Governing Body have submitted a budget plan which projects an in year deficit of £151k leading to a cumulative deficit of £517k," the report states.
"In order to further assist the school, the schools service have commissioned the support of a Headteacher from Caerphilly who has many years’ experience as a Special Schools Headteacher and he will assist the school in reviewing their budget plan. A Finance officer from the authority will also attend."
"Cabinet will receive a further report on the unlicensed budgets at its meeting of 27th September, 2016. Ysgol Cedewain’s budget plan will be considered within this report."
It is understood the school is facing more and more pressure due to the state of the buildings and layout.
Parents and others have long called for more investment in the school which has 10 buildings across the site, making it difficult for pupils and staff.
Councillors will discuss the situation on Tuesday, although it is understood from the report that it will be in September before any further action is taken.
