Hazel Wilson from Newtown NPTC college campus swapped her bowling whites for something with a bit more razzle dazzle when she went for afternoon tea at Buckingham Palace.
Hazel, who is assistant manager for study and support services at the college, rubbed shoulders with the Queen and numerous dignitaries at a summer garden party held at Buckingham Palace.
The invitation was in recognition of Hazel’s contribution to sport in Welsh bowls and celebrated her successes.
Hazel was invited to the event by Dame Elizabeth Shân Legge Bourke in acknowledgement of her achievements as Welsh Team Manager for Bowls.
Having been involved in bowls since 2009 Hazel has been manager of the Welsh team at two Commonwealth games (Delhi 2009 and Glasgow 2014) as well as the New Zealand test match.
Hazel explained: “It was a great honour and privilege to be invited and we had a wonderful afternoon with a chance to see the Queen, Duke of Edinburgh and Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla Parker Bowles.”
