Bypass to help students have insight into careers

26/05/2016 @ 11:41

Students in Newtown are to get an insight into careers in the construction industry thanks to contractors working on the Newtown bypass.

Newtown High School has teamed up with Alun Griffiths (Contractors) Ltd which will create opportunities for school and sixth form students to gain a greater understanding of the career opportunities available in the construction industry through taster days, organised visits to site and presentations by Griffiths staff at the school.

Four students from the school will shortly be starting a work experience placement with Griffiths through the National Skills Academy for Construction.

Mr R Bruten, Project Director said: “We are delighted to be working closely with Newtown High School, the school shares many of our values around hard work and excellence in all we do and we are sure that this partnership will have positive outcomes for the students of the school.”

Newtown Headteacher Mr G Harkness, said: “This partnership with Griffiths provides our students with a real life application of the skills they learn in the classroom.

“It’s a great opportunity for the school to work with a leading regional civil engineering and construction contractor with a track record stretching back almost fifty years.”
