£1.7m of road and infrastructure improvements announced

26/05/2016 @ 10:26

Over £1.7million is to be spent on roads and infrastructure in Montgomeryshire, including Newtown, Powys County Council has revealed.

The council has approved a £5million investment throughout Powys with work to include road resurfacing, safety works, drainage, car park surface patching and other work.

Over £500,000 will include “patching” work to road surfaces.

Councillor John Brunt, Cabinet Member for Highways, said; “This capital investment is good news for our highways and transport network. This capital investment will be targeted and prioritised to maximise its effectiveness.

“Given the continued revenue budget pressures, there are still significant challenges in maintaining the highway network. A further investment in energy efficient LED technology of £0.776m in our street lighting will see future savings in energy costs.

“We are also delighted to have secured £0.77m of additional funding from Welsh Government and further grant bids will also be submitted for further works.”
