Bank Holiday refuse collections as normal

23/05/2016 @ 12:30

Newtown residents and traders are reminded that recycling and refuse collections will take place as normal on Bank Holiday Monday.

Councillor John Powell, Cabinet Member for Environment and Sustainability, said: “The council reviewed its working arrangements for bank holidays and is pleased to confirm that there will be no change to collection days over the May bank holiday.

“This consistent approach minimises the disruption and is less confusing for residents and traders whilst also providing a more efficient collection service.

“We appreciate that holidays can be a busy time and urge residents and traders to spare a few minutes to recycle as much of their waste as possible.”

He reminded residents about the type of materials that can be recycle.

He said: “Items such as plastic trays, bottles and tubs and food and drinks cans, paper and cardboard, glass bottles and jars and food waste can all be recycled weekly. Larger items such as cardboard boxes, as well as garden waste can be recycled at a community recycling site or household waste recycling centre.

“Unfortunately we cannot accept plastic film (items such as carrier bags, bubble wrap, food bags and cling film) as it is very difficult to separate and very costly to recycle and should be placed in with your general refuse. Plastic film items put out for recycling will be left in the box with a card explaining why.”

Residents are reminded t ensure that their recycling and rubbish is put out for collection by 7.30am as the collection times may vary.
