Pass Plus Cymru - places still available

07/02/2011 @ 04:14

Places are still available on a Newtown course that will help young drivers gain valuable experience and skills to reduce their road risk.

Powys County Council's Road Safety Unit is urging young drivers to book their place on the Pass Plus Cymru Scheme before they become fully booked.  The unit facilitate the scheme thanks to funding from the Welsh Assembly Government.

Pass Plus Cymru is aimed at 17 to 25 year olds who hold a full driving licence.  The course consists of a 2.5hrs theory session which is conducted by a road safety officer and a nine-hour paid practical session which is carried out by Approved Driving Instructors.

As well reducing road risk and helping gain valuable experience and skills, young drivers may also be entitled to reduced insurance costs.

Cllr Geraint Hopkins, Board Members for Road Safety, said: "Since the introduction of this course in 2007, combined with secondary school education which is conducted by the Road Safety Unit, there has been a dramatic decrease on the number of young drivers who are killed or seriously injured on our roads.

"I truly believe that this course provides invaluable information and skills, which make our drivers much safer."

Course details:

Newtown Fire Station - 16 March at 6.30pm (20 places available)

The course taking place at Newtown Fire Station on Wednesday 9 February is now fully booked.

The cost of the course to each individual is £20.  The unit, through funding from the Welsh Assembly Government, will pay the remaining £80.
