New A6 Allroad from Audi

The A6 has always been one of my favourites in the Audi range, now the availability of Quattro permanent all-wheel-drive makes this model a stand-out option.

Improvements include a range of new and improved optional technologies like Matrix beam LED headlights which adapt automatically to the car’s surroundings; Audi Connect that lets driver and passengers access the internet and top of the range MMI Satellite Navigation which includes picture book navigation.

Climate control has been improved with digital display as standard and the Allroad gets double glazing for windscreen and front windows to improve the acoustics in the cabin.
C02 level targets have been improved on the range thanks to gearbox changes, start-stop system improvements and lighter springs meaning that the 3.0TDi Quattro S Tronic on test achieved 149g/km – a reduction of 16g/km.

Fed by a seven-speed gearbox the Allroad has a top speed of 155mph, went from 0-62mph in 6.2seconds and standing on stylish 20” alloys averaged 50.4mpg.
This 4x4 offering won’t take you charging up mountains but it does stick like glue, even in the wet, thanks to adjustable suspension. There’s probably a bit more roll than on the saloon model but there’s a comfortable ride and an elevated driving position.

Audi has given the Allroad a more muscular appearance too, thanks to extended wheel arches and the raised stance and impressive looking wheels.

There’s a lot of competition in this sector and while Audi stands out as the quality benchmark it does all come at a price.

The model on test starts at £46,000 but the extras on board added another £22,000 which made it a tad on the pricey side at £68,140.

You pay extra for Quattro, Head-up display, the 20” alloys, electric seats, LED headlights, speed limit display, privacy glass and the panoramic sunroof.

You’ll also have to dig deep to fund a leather package BOSE surround system, night vision assist, Navigation Plus, Audi Connect, cruise control, side assist, lane assist, heated mirrors and heated mirrors.

But all Audi buyers will know they get what they pay for and residual values are outstanding on the entire range.

The SatNav system with Google Map imaged in the centre of the driver’s console is an outstanding feature while the cabin is a glorious place to be for those impressed by technology and comfort.

There’s comfortable seating for five six-footers and while the boot space isn’t best in class there’s ample room for everything including anco0uple of golf club sets – so you’ll be popular with your course pals.

Audi is giving the entire range a makeover but the Allroad is the stand-out model for me.
