£1million cannabis factory raided in Newtown

A cannabis factory thought to be worth more than £1million has been uncovered by police in Newtown.

It has emerged that police officers raided a property in Stone Street on Saturday where they uncovered the operation and found over 1,600 cannabis plants.

Police said two men aged 21 and 38 had been arrested and were due to appear before Welshpool Magistrates Court.

"Dyfed-Powys Police officers uncovered a large-scale cannabis factory with a potential street value of around one million pounds in Newtown.

"Police carried out a warrant at an address in Stone Street during the early hours of Saturday morning, where a significant number of plants were found.

"Two men –aged 21 and 38 – were arrested at the scene and were later charged with producing a controlled drug.

"Officers estimated there were around 1,600 plants at the address, with a potential street value of £1million."
