A chance to go behind the scenes at Newtown Police Station

16/07/2018 @ 03:19

The public are to be given a rare chance to see behind the scenes at Newtown Police Station next month.

Dyfed Powys Police are hosting an open day at the Park Lane site where police  officers and support staff will be on hand showing what work they undertake and how they prevent and tackle crime.

"Between 11am and 4pm on Thursday, 2 August, members of the public are invited to visit the station where they will have opportunity to take a tour around the police vehicles, including the mobile police station, a riot van, patrols cars, a police tractor and a Go Safe speed van," said a police spokesperson.

"Visitors will be able to take a guided tour of the station’s custody suite and sit in a cell. There will be plenty of activities to keep children entertained including face painting, sports activities and police dress-up."

Local officers and staff will be there to speak to visitors about any concerns they may have around crime in the town.

There will also be officers from specialist police departments including the dog section, firearms, specials on horses, as well as other partner agencies and emergency services.

Chief Inspector Rhiannon Ivens said: “We’re looking forward to opening our doors to visitors for Newtown Police Station’s Open Day on Thursday, August 2nd.

“Holding an open day will provide an informal way for people to come and meet officers and staff, get a behind the scenes look at policing and build positive relationships with their local policing team.

“I’m confident that the community in Newtown will support this event and I look forward to meeting lots of new faces.”

Refreshments will be available throughout the day."
