Staff "battered" for a good cause

Staff at a Newtown business have been left “battered” after a fundraising effort to support the town’s Food Bank.

Staff at the Genie fish and chip shop have raised £200 for the Salvation Army run Food Bank in Newtown which supports local families in time of crisis.

Customers had been asked to vote for who would be covered in the cold batter before owner Elaine poured it on them for charity.

“Newtown Food Bank has helped 232 families so far this year providing approximately 4176 meals all through the generous support of the public,” said Nicola Wain, Community Development Worker at the Newtown Corps of the Salvation Army.

“Elaine and her team were delighted to raise £200 and lots of fun was had.”
