Residents in Newtown are to be asked for their views on the issues affecting them as part of a county-wide survey.
The work is being carried out as part of the county’s response to the Welsh Government’s Wellbeing of Future Generations (Wales) Act 2015.
The Powys Public Service Board – a multi-agency partnership – has produced a Draft Well-being Assessment, setting out what it thinks are the main issues facing the county.
During February, representatives of the board will be out and about in Newtown and other towns asking people if these are the right ones.
Councillor Barry Thomas is Chair of the Powys Public Service Board and he explained: “We have looked at a wide range of information relating to our communities to try and establish what we think are our main strengths and challenges for the years ahead. However, now we need to find out from residents if we are on the right lines.”
The board has looked at issues such as people’s health, access to employment, education and training opportunities, housing and access to transport.
Representatives of the board will be asking people for their views on what it thinks are the main issues in a variety of venues – libraries, ‘high streets’, community halls, supermarkets – around the county as well as meeting with a wide range of community groups.
Members of the public will also have an opportunity to have an input via an online survey at www.powys.gov.uk/haveyoursay. This will be available from the first week in February and will run through until the end of the month.
Details of the locations of the events around the county will be announced shortly.
The Powys Public Service Board is made up of representatives of Powys County Council, Brecon Beacons National Park Authority, the Powys Association of Voluntary Organisations (PAVO), Powys Teaching Health Board, Dyfed Powys Police, Mid and West Wales Fire Authority and Natural Resources Wales.
