Calling all Newtown musicians

24/01/2011 @ 02:28

The Mid Wales music scene is booming and it’s only a matter of time before an artist or band hits the big time.

That’s the belief of the man behind Teller Promotions, a Mid Wales promotions company with the sole aim of promoting local music and assisting unsigned artists to gain exposure and to play to larger audiences.

Ben Picken is well known as a member of Colour Sunday (left), a Montgomeryshire band which has received widespread acclaim from across the music industry and is shortly launching new material.

But Ben is also looking at the bigger picture and hopes his new venture will tap a huge well of talent waiting to explode onto the scene.

“There are so many top quality artists in the area that aren’t getting the exposure they deserve, even at a local level,” said Ben. “We are hoping that the next 12 months are going to be very exciting for everyone involved in the Mid Wales music scene, both artists and fans alike. We are working closely with several venues about some very exciting events that promise to be great nights!”

In 2010, Teller Promotions organised a number of multi-band gigs and the next takes place in Welshpool next Saturday to promote Welshpool (Collected) Volume One, which was launched before Christmas and features a track from each of the town’s top bands and artists. Seven of them will be playing at the gig.

“We want to do something similar for Newtown,” said Ben. “I want to hear from any musicians that are looking to gain more exposure and raise their profile.”

Teller has recently signed up Dai Robs (right), who works at Get Connected in the town, as their first artist to manage. He progressed to the final of the Open Mic UK tournament last week and is becoming noticed in the record industry.

The website, www.tellerpromotions.co.uk, acts as a central hub for Mid Wales music featuring all the very best bands and artists from the area and it also promotes local live events. There will also be an on-line shop for artists to sell their music and an advice section for bands starting out.

Any bands, artists or venues interested in working with Teller Promotions should contact them at info@tellerpromotions.co.uk

Welshpool (Collected) Volume One is available in Newtown at Fuze Record store.
