Byron Hughes pens book on cricket

Former Newtown High School teacher and well known sportsman Byron Hughes has co-written a book about Llanidloes Cricket Club.
Byron a former Wales cricketer and Welsh Amateur International footballer has teamed up with lifelong friend Lyn Meredith to pen ‘The Daffodils Who Played In Whites’.
Tracing the history of Llanidloes Cricket Club over a 40 year period the book is full of stories about the many characters who graced the wicket, with many also turning out for the successful town football club too.
Hughes spent his entire teaching career at Newtown High School from 1965 until retirement in 1996. He joined the school as a science and PE teacher before finishing his days as Head Of Year.
He was an accomplished sportsman representing Llanidloes on both cricket and football fields. His batting prowess earned him a Wales cap and he also won a Welsh Amateur Cup medal with Llanidloes FC before enjoying a spell at Berriew.
The book is dedicated to Byron’s wife Mary and Lyn’s late wife Euince and is published by Lolfa and on sale at £6-95.
 It was launched at Llanidloes Football Club last Friday.
