Have a say on "the big issues"

30/12/2013 @ 03:47
The people of Newtown and the surrounding areas are being given the chance to have a say on "the big issues" facing Powys.

Residents are being asked to give their views on a blueprint plan for the county called the One Powys Plan.

The plan is based on robust data that will see the council, police, health board and voluntary sector sharing resources and working together on several “big issues” that are deemed to be a priority for the county.

Chair of the Powys Local Service Board, Cllr David Jones explained:  “The One Powys Plan will be one of the most important documents in existence for all Powys partners and residents over the coming years. We’ve taken a radical but methodical approach to looking at all the data we have and considered where we can really work together, share our resources and make a difference to people’s lives.

"A lot of work and analysis of key data has already shaped the current draft priorities but we’d like to hear from you, as our residents, about whether you feel we are tackling the things that matter most to you, your family, the community you live in and the county as a whole.”

The aim of the consultation is to put all 15 “big issues” on the table and ask the public to consider:
  • which are the most important to them and why
  • whether the proposed actions would make a difference to them, their families
  • what other actions they might like to see included under a specific “big issue”.
The fifteen “big issues” are: Communities, Housing, Road traffic collisions, Community safety, Transport, Education, Training  & jobs for young people,  Internet access, Immunisation, Long term illness, Older People, Carers, Healthy Lifestyles, Vulnerable families and Mental Health and wellbeing.

The consultation runs until 24 January 2014.  Residents can either go into their local library and ask for the One Powys Plan folder which gives details about each of the 15 issues and includes a freepost reply card or go online to the Local Service Board’s website at
www.one.powys.gov.uk and take part in the consultation.
