Newtown is to host one of its most ambitious events to date with the Newtown Festival of Food, Drink and Music taking place between Friday, 6 and Sunday, 8th September.

Food, produce and other stallholders from throughout the area and the borders will set up shop throughout the park and Town Hall Grounds and the town centre, along with a wide range of entertainment and events throughout the weekend.

With the aim of making it an annual event, Newtown Town Council believe it will attract thousands of local residents and visitors from further afield to the town throughout the weekend.

Producers ranging from cakes to bread, Indian cuisine to teas, as well as local drink producers, cookery businesses, restaurants and others are setting up stalls, showing off all that is good about food, allowing people to tantalise their tastebuds and find out more about food and drink.

"It's going to be a great weekend full of events, activities and exhibitors, providing a real buzz throughout the town," said Town Clerk, Jenn Jones.

"We hope as any people as possible will come along and enjoy and support what will be a great weekend event."

Chefs including Geraint Morris, quarter finalist in S4Cs Cogn1o, Welsh junior master chef competition, celebrity Dai Chef, Neil Roberts from the Waggon and Horses, Tim Harrison, winner of S4Cs Brwydyr Y Fwyllen chef competiton, and Gareth Jones, chef propriter at the Wynnstay Hotel, Machynlleth, are among those providing cookery demonstrations.

There will also be the finals of the Newtown Junior Ready, Steady, Cook.

A communiyt village will also be based in the park with a range of community groups and organisations hosting stands, events and activities, as well as children's entertainment throughout the weekend.

Music will also take centre stage with a range of bands taking part.

There's also a chance to take part in the town's first Precision Laser Shooting competition. Local business uStrike will be promoting the Olympic discipline under the modern pentathlon. Participants will run and shoot using safe laser technology along an 800 metre circuit along the riverside.

Local history trails, talks and other events are also planned.

A Facebook page has been set up and be found here where more details will be posted. MyNewtown will also keep you up-to-date with the latest news leading up to the weekend.
