Sonny back with a bang

Sonny Wharton is back, and he’s back with a bang by bringing us up-to-date with his latest news from the heart of ‘Gangnam’ land to a homecoming show right here in Newtown that is not to be missed!

“Currently knee deep in making new music right now and sat in my dark studio missing out on the glorious spring sunshine that’s finally arrived. The last couple of months have been pretty hectic to say the least hence the fact that I am a bit late with my regular blog post – to anyone that knows me this is probably of no surprise as my time keeping is sadly far from punctual.

So, re-capping from the last couple of months I got to celebrate New Year all over again when I headed out to Seoul for a gig at one of my favourite clubs in the world Club Octagon in the heart of the now famed Gangnam district of the city. For a club that’s only been open for just over 18 months it’s fast become the best in the country and I’ve been very lucky to make this my third show there in just under a year! Considering I spend more time on the flight than I do in the city, it’s a gig I look forward to every time and somewhere I’ve made some great friends. This show was all geared around the Korean Lunar New Year and it was nothing short of amazing with a 3,000 capacity crowd going nuts from start to finish. As is too often the case there was no time to sit and reflect on the adventure as I had to jump straight back on the plane within hours of finishing the show and somewhere equally as cold… Glasgow!

Having played regularly in Scotland, I kinda knew what was in store for when we got there as they really know how to party and with this night celebrating its third birthday there’s pretty much no chance of it being a quiet night. Packed out from front to back the place was full of friendly faces with such a close nit crew of DJs and promoters it’s always a great place to play. The gig was a success and the after party was still in full swing by the time I headed back to the Airport mid Sunday afternoon…  it wouldn’t surprise me if they were still going right now!

Since then we’ve hit London for Skint Records party at the infamous Corsica alongside Ashley Beedle of X-Press 2 fame and Double99 amongst others. That was a great night and was finished up by heading to Egg afterwards to check out Sebastien Leger and Format B rocking the basement there until the sun came up. Another weekend of pretty much no sleep leaving little time to catch my breath before flying out to Barcelona and enduring the long three-hour bus transfer (Zzzz) up to Andorra for Snowboxx festival with the Datatransmission crew. I got to play on an outdoor stage right on the slopes overlooking the mountains which made a nice change from the usual surroundings. I recorded the set and you can listen to it here: https://soundcloud.com/sonnywharton/the-live-sessions-007-sonny

This month I’m off to Canada to talk on an industry panel about all things music related at their national DJ Show in Toronto and then return to play back on home turf at The Regent Centre in Newtown again on Saturday, April 27 – If its anything like the one we did back in December it’s going to be off the hook and I’d genuinely love to see some of you there if you can make it!

Also a big thanks to everyone that checked out the Fatboy Slim remix I gave away… really pleased you like it! If you missed that on the last post go grab a copy of it here alongside a couple of brand new freebies we’ve just posted for you https://www.facebook.com/sonnywharton/app_178091127385

Thanks for reading, hope to see you on 27th April in Newtown!”
