Festival to be heard on Radio 3

13/07/2012 @ 06:23

On Saturday at 1pm, discerning music listeners from across the UK can tune into BBC Radio 3’s highlights of a concert from this year’s successful Gregynog Festival.

The concert of Monteverdi Madrigals given by the acclaimed Italian vocal ensemble is one of two recorded by BBC Radio 3 for broadcast from this year’s Festival, the other being a recital by the Venetian pianist Alessandro Taverna which will be broadcast later in 2012.

Dr Rhian Davies, Gregynog Festival’s Artistic Director, said: “We have had a vintage year - an outstanding roster of international artists, a five-star review in The Guardian and more than 2,000 visitors taking in two weeks of concerts, exhibitions, talks, films and workshops. The season will be rounded off perfectly by BBC Radio 3’s broadcasts from the Festival, reinforcing our belief that we all enjoyed something really special in rural mid-Wales this summer.

“Our thanks go out to all our sponsors and supporters including the Arts Council of Wales, the Major Events Unit of the Welsh Government and the Colwinston Charitable Trust who continue to support us into the future. We feel we have re-set the bar this year and our audiences are already looking forward to Gregynog Festival 2013.”

Nick Capaldi, Chief Executive, Arts Council of Wales, added: “Wales’ festivals attract thousands of visitors to Wales each year from across the globe.  Our festivals are a wonderful showcase for Wales’s imagination and enterprise. Gregynog Festival is one of the jewels in the Welsh crown and a key date in the cultural calendar.”
