A young sporting ambassador from Llanidloes had the chance to hold the Olympic Torch ahead of its relay across the UK and meet Olympic gold medal cyclist, Geraint Thomas.

Hanna Owen from Llanidloes High School joined three other students from throughout Powys and other young people from across Wales for amn Olympic Amabassadors event at Glamorgan Cricket Club in Cardiff.

The group also met a range of inspirational sports people, including Welsh cycling ace and Olympic champion, Geraint Thomas.

The young people, including Dominic Jones from Ysgol Maesydderwen, Abbie Price from John Beddoes High School, and Mollie Gibbons from Gwernyfed High School, together with Hannah Charnley from Ysgol Penmaes, are Gold Ambassadors for Powys.

They are a team of young people who have been chosen to inspire other youngsters to get involved in sport and help make London 2012 relevant to their own communities.

Following their selection, they will work with Powys County Council to recruit silver Young Ambassadors for each secondary school in the county and Coleg Powys to help them in their cause.

The Young Ambassador initiative is running across Wales. For further details about the scheme in Powys, contact Wendy Langford at Powys County Council on 01597 826148.
