Money provided to the Newtown Robert Owen Scout Group is to be used to create a disabled access ramp - but more money is needed for the project.

Newtown Town Council awarded the scout group money as part of its community grant fund.

The group has thanked the council and said it will be used to improve accessibility at the scout hall off Park Lane once it has raised more money for the project.

"As explained in our application, the award goestowards construction of a ramp to provide access for the disabled at the main entrance to the Hall," said a letter to the town council.

"The existing steps are very steep and makew heelchair access impossible and difficult as well for anyone with a disability. We shall be making every effort to build up our funds to complete the project as soon as possible."

It added: "The Scout Hall is an asset not only forour young people and parents but also for the wider community through our hiring arrangements. There is a large main hall along with a smaller meeting room and a kitchen and toilets. The ramp will make the building more accessible for all in Newtownand increase its community value."
