Excavations are well underway

Work excavating the "Newtown Mound" is well underway with archaeologists and volunteers digging trenches in an attempt to find out about the area's past.

The work began last Monday and continues this week by Clwyd Powys Archaeological Trust with the help of some local people. The work has been commissioned by Newtown Town Council.

The mound is located just off Park Street and little is known about its past, other than it could have been part of the origins of the original settlement of what is now Newtown.

Once completed, any items found will be placed on display at an exhibition at the Oriel Davies Gallery in Back Lane and a report will be filed for the town council.
