Councillor's "genuine" reasons for absence

10/01/2022 @ 10:40

Powys County Councillor Mark Barnes has explained he has had “genuine” reasons for his low attendance figures at meetings.

MyNewtown mentioned the councillor’s attendance during the last six months when it was confirmed over the weekend that he had resigned from the Conservative Group on the council.

Councillor Barnes said: “I had personal and genuine reasons for being unable to attend some meetings and had informed Powys County Council and my political party. Other councillors are helping me with ward matters.”

He also confirmed his resignation from the Conservatives Group. “The Montgomerysire Conservatives Association is not acting for the good of the community and there has been a lack of integrity over a couple of issues meaning that I can no longer recommend them to the people of my ward.”

Councillor Barnes said he would continue to represent the Newtown Llanllwchaiarn West Ward as an Independent non-aligned member.
