Disney competition for theatre

Newtown Musical Theatre Company is urging youngsters to take part in a competition to celebrate its next production and they've already been inundated with interest.

Members of the company are currently hard at work rehearsing for their next show – Be Our Guest – A Celebration of Disney, to be performed in the newly refurbished Theatr Hafren, on the 7^th and 8^th of October.

To coincide with the show, NMTC are teaming up with Wates Living Space to run a competition for school children, to design a new Disney character.

There will be two sections, one for children aged 11 and under, and one for those aged 12-16. The best design from each category will be included in the programme for the show, which will be available during performances. The overall winner in each category will also receive a special prize and there will be several runners up prizes too. (Details of the prizes will be available next week).

The competition will be judged by respected Mid Wales based artist and poet Frieda Hughes, who lives locally. Frieda trained in fine art and graphic design, and has previously illustrated her own children's books and, when living in Australia in the 1990s, was the cartoonist for the West Australian Newspaper magazine

Entrants are encouraged to be as imaginative as they like, and entries should be as colourful as possible. All entries should be submitted on A4 paper, and should be posted to Jonathan Davies, Publicity Manager, Newtown Musical Theatre Company, c/o Theatr Hafren, Llanidloes Road, Newtown, Powys.
