Band launches crowdfunding page for cash lifeline

12/12/2020 @ 10:41
Another annual event has switched to an online stage with Newtown Silver Band hosting its annual Christmas concert on the web.

And it has launched a crowdfunding page to help keep it going financially.

The band normally hosts its festive concert at a local venue, but due to the coronavirus situation it has recorded its concert for online viewing.

"2020 has been a very difficult year for everyone. Due to Covid restrictions and regulations, Newtown Silver Band has been unable to rehearse indoors since last March," said David Evans, Chairman of the band.

"Although we managed a couple of socially distanced outdoor rehearsals at the end of the summer, we have not been able to play together since then.

"Despite this, the band is still in good spirits and we were able to get together outside to record a few Christmas tunes which we hope you will all enjoy! We also include a few items from our talented junior members. A big thank you to Martin Tomkins for all his technical work."

Mr Evans said the band was also struggling financially as it had not been able to fundraise at its normal events.

"This has been a very challenging time for the band as we have been unable to fulfil our usual busy summer and Christmas schedule of engagements which bring in our annual source of income.

"We have therefore set up a ‘crowdfunding’ page with a link on our website if anyone would kindly like to make a donation in order to ensure that the band will continue to serve the local community for another 140 years.

"Thank you for your continued support - we hope to be out and about entertaining the public soon again next year!

"We hope you all have a wonderful Christmas and a Happy New Year.
Nadolig Llawen a Blwyddyn Newydd dda."
