Town's heritage trail continues to grow

Newtown's Heritage Trail is growing with more plaques unveiled on local historic buildings.

The latest plaque was unveiled at Sarah Brisco House, home of Newtown Town Council.

Another was unveiled at the Oriel Davies Gallery.

Cllr Tracy Owen met up with chariman of Sarah Brisco House Trust, Rod Evans, to scan the QR Code that allows people to read about the property on the town council website.

Cllr Owen said: "We are quite rightly proud of the interesting and varied history of our town, so I am very pleased to be a part of organising the Newtown Heritage Trail which we hope will be a fun and educational activity for both residents and visitors alike."

According to the town council the Newtown Heritage Trail aims to commemorate people, places, events and achievements in Newtown.

"The aim is to link these stories to buildings in which people lived or worked and provide a permanent recognition of some of the most notable figures in Newtown’s recent and distant past."

The QR Codes on all of the plaques take you to https://newtown.org.uk/discover…/newtown-heritage-trail where visitors can follow the trail and take the time to be introduced to local characters such as John Roberts, the Romani Gypsy harpist who was famed as the country’s leading performer on the Welsh triple harp.

"There are still more plaques to be installed and we are excited for the day when they are all in place and the Heritage trail is complete."
