Gallery to partly re-open in August

24/07/2020 @ 07:32
Newtown's Oriel Davies Gallery is aiming to begin re-opening next month.

The gallery, like other venues and museums, had to close due to the coronavirus situation.

The gallery will re-open in phases for three days a week from 6 August and will be open on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.

Its cafe and shop will be part of the first phase. The gallery is putting in place social distancing measures as part of its re-opening.

"Oriel Davies are working hard behind the scenes to get the gallery open as soon as they can. The UK government announced that museums will be able to safely open their doors again in the coming weeks so the art gallery in the park in Newtown is working hard to put measures in place, following government guidance, so that they can provide the safest possible experience for their staff and visitors," said Steffan Jones Hughes, Director of the gallery.

"There’ll be an exhibition of prints and drawings by Melvyn Evans in Oriel y Caffi, which celebrate the land. Oriel 1 will open in August with Our Isles: An Exhibition Celebrating the Art of Rural Life, and later in the Autumn Oriel 2 will host the DAC Art Prize."

Visitor Experience Manager, Deborah Dalton said: “We miss our visitors and can’t wait to welcome you all back.”
