College students celebrate success

Students from Coleg Powys’ Newtown campus celebrated their achievements from the past year during the college’s inaugural Students Awards Ceremony.

The students joined others from the college’s Llandrindod Wells and Brecon sites to celebrate at the event in Llandrindod.
This year’s College Student of the Year 2011 Award was presented to Stephanie Hughson from the Brecon site for her outstanding achievements in sport. All winners were presented with a certificate and a cheque.
The Federation of Small Businesses (FSB), who sponsored the subject area awards along with the Mid Wales Manufacturing Group, Themes Restaurant and Theatr Hafren, said: “We were very proud to be main sponsors of this awards ceremony which rewarded the achievements and talents of the students.”
Sharon Hammond, owner of Quackers and tutor at the college said: “I thought it was an excellent evening with a really feel good factor. I know my students really enjoyed it and were thrilled with their prizes."
Rita Lawrence, former Chair of the Governors commented: “It was a splendid evening and I know just looking at the faces – all were having a great time.”
