Some rights of way in and around Newtown will be closed by noon on Wednesday.
The Welsh Government has ordered Powys County Council to close some rights of way or access to land.
In an instruction to council chiefs, the Welsh Government has ordered:
“You must now take steps to close certain types of rights of way or access land for which you have responsibility by 12pm on March 25.
“The footpaths and access land which must be closed are those which you consider to be:
(a) liable to large numbers of people congregating or being in close proximity to each other, or
(b) the use of which otherwise poses a high risk to the incidence or spread of infection in its area with the Coronavirus.
“You must publish a list of rights of way or access land to be closed on your website.”
This will give councils permission to lock gates to public playgrounds and popular attractions.
