Newtown’s Iceland store will open just for elderly customers between 9am and 11am on Wednesday, it has said.
It comes as some other Iceland stores in the UK have said they will open an hour earlier in the mornings for elderly people only in the current COVIC-19 situation.
Iceland has said it is up to each of its individual stores if they take part in the initiative and staff and management have agreed.
The store, off High Street and Back Lane, is to change its general hours to 9.30am to 5.30pm each weekday from tomorrow (Tuesday, 17 March).
“The adjustment in open its to aid us in looking after ourselves, our families, the store and most importantly you, the customer,” said the Newtown store manager in a message.
“Further to this adjustment we will also be opening 9am to 11pm on Wednesday purely for the elderly in our community to shop whilst it’s quite for essentials. Please respect this and allow our most vulnerable to shop first.”
