Police in Newtown are reminding local residents of the opportunity to see their local police station in operation at an open day next month.

Dyfed Powys Police is holding an open day on Thursday, 1 August.

"Between the hours of 11am and 4pm members of the public are invited to visit the station where they will have opportunity to take a tour around the police cars and motorbikes," said a police spokesperson.

"Visitors will be able to take a guided tour of the station’s custody suite and sit in a cell. There will be plenty of activities to keep children entertained including face painting, sports activities and police dress-up.

She added: "There will also be officers from specialist police departments including the dog section, firearms, scenes of crime, as well as other partner agencies and emergency services police work with to keep the community safe."

Local officers and staff will be there to speak to visitors about any concerns they may have about crime and disorder in the town.

Chief Inspector Andy Pitt said: “We’re looking forward to opening our doors to visitors for Newtown Police Station’s Open Day on Thursday, August 1.

“Holding an open day will provide an informal way for people to come and meet officers and staff, get a behind the scenes look at policing and build positive relationships with their local police.

“I do hope the Newtown community will support this event and I look forward to meeting lots of new faces on Thursday, 1 August.”

Refreshments will be available throughout the day.
