Tickets are now on sale for Newtown and District Male Voice Choir’s Annual Concert, which will take place at The Hafren, Newtown at 7.30pm on Saturday, 18th May.

"This is the first time the choir’s Annual Concert has taken place in The Hafren, and the choir are delighted to announce that they will be joined at the concert by two well-known musical artists, Tenor Aled Wyn Davies and Mezzo Soprano Sioned Terry, both of whom will be accompanied by Menna Griffiths," said Jonathan Davies of the choir.

Local tenor Aled Wyn Davies, from Llanbrynmair, is returning to perform with the Choir, following a well-received appearance at last year’s annual concert.

"Still working as a farmer by day, Aled has achieved great success as a soloist across Wales, winning the famous ‘Blue Ribband’ prize at the National Eisteddfod in Swansea in 2006.

"Since then, he has performed all over the world, and has also released two albums, Nodau Aur fy Nhân in 2006, and Erwau’r Daith in 2015. In 2014, he joined Rhys Meirion and Aled Hall as one of the Three Welsh Tenors."

Originally from North Wales, classically trained Mezzo Soprano Sioned Terry performs a range of songs spanning genres from opera to popular songs from stage and screen, lieder, oratorio and Welsh classics.

She is a familiar face on S4C, having recorded performances for several popular light entertainment programmes, including Dechrau Canu Dechrau Canmol and Noson Lawen. Her first EP, Think of Me / Cofia Fi, was published in 2013, and she is also a composer, having published a collection of songs for voice and piano. Sioned also performs across Wales as part of the female trio Athena.

The choir will be conducted by Musical Director Sarah Astley-Davies and accompanied by Greg Jenkins, and they will also be joined by Geraint Peate as compere for the evening.

Tickets for the concert are £15 each, and are available going to the Hafren website https://www.thehafren.co.uk, by phoning their Box Office 01686 614555 or emailing boxoffice@hafren.co.uk.
