The search is on for people to become firefighters in Newtown and a number of surrounding towns.
Mid and west Wales Fire and Rescue Service is seeking new recruits to bolster Newtown Fire Station as retained firefighters. They are also looking to recruit more in Montgomery, Llanfair Caereinion, Llanidloes and Welshpool.
"On-call fire fighters come from every walk of life, including homemakers, shopkeepers, builders, farmers, office workers, leisure centre staff and Directors of companies together with people who are not currently employed," said Matt Pryce, Watch Manager: North Powys Station Liaison Officer.
:Full training is provided on an ongoing basis, therefore previous experience is not needed. An on-call firefighter could be called out 2-3 times a week, for a few hours at a time. The on-call hours are based around people’s availability and other commitments."
To be an on-call firefighter you must:
• Have a strong desire to support your local community
• Be enthusiastic about working as part of a team
• Have a reasonable level of personnel fitness
• Live or/and work within 10 minutes of your local station.
