Festive shoebox appeal launched in Newtown

09/11/2018 @ 09:45

Residents in Newtown are being encouraged to donate shoeboxes full of items for elderly and vulnerable people as part of a scheme being supported by a care provider in the area in the lead up to Christmas.

Abacare has launched its shoebox appeal, for the fourth year running, for its service users who may not be able to get outside to pick up essentials during the festive season.

Jane Jones, Branch Manager at Abacare, which has an office in Newtown, said: “It’s that time of year again when we ask the generous people of Wales to get behind our festive shoebox appeal. It has been extremely successful in the past, so we have decided to continue it again this year.

“We’re asking people to fill a shoebox with essentials and other bits and pieces that they think would really help brighten someone’s day. We would suggest hats, scarves, slippers, toiletries, books and something a bit more festive and fun for Christmas.

“All of the boxes donated will be evenly distributed among our elderly service users and we’re sure it will really help brighten their day.”

Any shoeboxes can be dropped off or sent to Abacare’s offices at St David’s House, New Street, Newtown, Powys, SY16 1RB. The deadline for boxes to be sent is Friday, 4 December.
