A day to remember

12/08/2018 @ 10:44

Local youngsters were a part of the historic day of celebrations that saw Tour de France hero Geraint Thomas welcomed home following his incredible triumph.

The Team Sky rider blew away the opposition to win the Tour de France in style, and there was a hero’s welcome for him in his home city of Cardiff where plenty of local cycling enthusiasts had made the long journey south.

Among them were members of the Junior Hafren Cycling Club who were lucky enough to be involved in Geraint’s official homecoming parade peloton through the streets.

It was an amazing experience and to cap it off, a couple of the youngsters were interviewed by BBC Wales and BBC 5 Live.

Coach, Paul Bufton, said: “Geraint's journey to winning the Tour de France started in a go-ride club in Cardiff similar to ours, which is massively inspiring to young riders starting out on their journey in cycling. The club was honoured to take part in Geraint’s homecoming and it was an amazing experience for the young Hafren riders who got to meet him and ride with him.

“That day in Cardiff will live long in their memory and I hope that our young riders will be inspired to work hard and dream big, just like Geraint did.”
