Bench unveiled to commemorate WW1 centenary

30/06/2018 @ 10:47

A bench to commemorate the centenary of the First World War has been installed in the town centre.

The bench has been placed by the Remembrance Gates at the Town Hall grounds.

It was installed a couple of weeks ago and has now been formally unveiled this week.

Newtown and Llanllwchaiarn Town Council installed the bench.

Cllr Richard White, Chair of the town council's Services Committee, said: “We wanted something to mark the centenary of the First World War and I think this is a great way to do this. The bench serves two purposes, a place to sit and relax and an image of remembrance”

The Town Council will also be hosting a First World War Remembrance Tea Party on 10 November at The Elephant and Castle.

Tickets for this event will be on sale soon. The event will include entertainment, a raffle and a buffet lunch.

All proceeds will go to Help the Heroes.
