Fund hands £8,500 to local groups and projects

Eleven Newtown groups and project have benefited from an £8,500 funding round from the Newtown Town Council Community Fund.

The latest round follows £9,500 awarded to other groups earlier in the year.

A total of 28 organisations and projects have now benefited from over £18,000 provided by the fund this year.

Cllr David Selby, Chair of the council’s resources committee, said: “It’s wonderful that our town has such a variety of voluntary groups.

"The community scheme is designed to help these groups develop and grow. Well done to all the successful groups this year, and the town council looks forward to continuing the scheme next year.”

The Mayor, Cllr Sue Newham, supported by Deputy Mayor, Cllr Susan Hill, remarked on the success of the community fund since its launch in 2015 and made the individual presentations of between £500 and £1,000 to various groups.

These included Newtown Dragons Cricket Club, Kelly's Kats, Motor Neuron Disease Association, South Montgomeryshire Volunteer Bureau, Newtown Silver Band, Play Montgomeryshire, 2nd Newtown Guide Unit, Stroke Association Neuro Café, Arts Connection, Menter Maldwyn and Montgomeryshire Family Crisis Centre.

Newtown Town Council supports groups and projects within its community, holding holds two rounds of funding each year with applications invited by April and September.
