New Zealand man searches for local relatives

A New Zealand man has appealed through MyNewtown to find long lost relatives.

Gerald Breeze has been given a photograph on porcelain of his great great grandmother, Catherine Roberts (1815 to 1888), who married a Thomas Brees (1807 to 1851) at Llanbrynmair.

"My great grandfather, Thomas Alfred Brees (1848 to 1927) emigrated to New Zealand, arriving on 2 April 1876. Somewhere along the line his surname changed to Breeze. They had six children, Stephen, John, Ann, Jane, Thomas Alfred and Edmund," said Mr Breeze.

"After her husband Thomas Brees died in 1851 she married Thomas Jarman on 12 May 1853 in Newtown and they had two children, Mary and David.

"Recently, I have been given the care of a photograph on porcelain of Catherine Roberts and I enclose a digital copy of it which I am very happy to share with any of Catherine’s descendants."

He added: "As she died in 1888 the picture must have been taken during the 1880’s. It is on porcelain. I also have put in a picture which I have reason to believe is of the farmhouse at Neuaddlwyd which is where Catherine lived."

Anyone who thinks they know of or are relatives of Mr Breeze can email him at gerald.breeze@outlook.co.nz.
