Leap of faith for Graham - in aid of charity

21/09/2017 @ 03:10

A well-known face on Newtown's streets pounding the beat as a PCSO is Graham Jennings.

But he swapped his uniform for a parachute suit last week to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

Graham, who was the winner of the public-voted Dyfed-Powys Police #WeCare award in March, faced his fear of heights last Friday.

He donned his Cancer Research UK T-shirt for the occasion and described the challenge as one of the most wonderful things he has ever achieved.

Graham chose a skydive to raise money and awareness of Cancer Research UK, and also to face his fear of heights.

He has so far raised £3,500 for the charity, which is close to his heart after losing both his parents to the disease.

Graham said: “It has to be the most wonderful thing I have ever achieved. I can't explain how falling from 15,000ft felt, but it's totally magic and magnificent and yes, I’m definitely going to do it again.

“I would like to see a time when all people can be liberated from the fear of this dreadful disease.

“I chose the challenge of a skydive for one simple reason, to confront my fear of heights. However, this is nothing compared to the suffering that many people have had to endure with their battles against cancer.”

Donations can still be made via donation boxes in Newtown Police Station or by donating through Graham’s Just Giving page.
