Volunteers are needed for a Newtown based charity that helps people with learning difficulties get heard and valued.
The charity, which covers Montgomeryshire, is launching its latest training for volunteers on 11 September and wants people to come forward and help.
“At A Voice for You we are passionate about making sure that people with a learning disability in our area are valued and respected.
“People like Janet, who is only able to get out into the town and browse around the shops on the day our advocate visits. Her advocate is her only friend and ensures that she is treated with respect.
“Imagine how great it feels to help someone have their voice heard and get out and about in the community in this way.
“Our forthcoming training will enable us to recruit new advocates to be that special person for someone on our waiting list.
“Having an advocate is very special for a person with a learning disability. Imagine only having contact with people who are paid to support you from day to day.
“Imagine how marvellous it is then to have someone independent who chooses to be there for you and make sure you are listened to and that your rights are defended. What a difference that makes.”
Starting on 11 September, A Voice for You is offering free advocacy induction training for volunteers in Plas Dolerw in Newtown.
The five training sessions we deliver cover disability awareness, understanding advocacy, communication, advocacy skills and understanding legislation and procedure.
