The countdown is on for the latest annual Newtown Food Festival that takes place this weekend.

THE fifth festival takes place at the Town Hall grounds from 10am on Saturday and Sunday and includes events and stands, with over sixty producers and exhibitors.

“Our friends from Les Herbiers are joining us again this year for the fourth time in the Newtown Twinning marquee at our annual Newtown Food Festival,” said a festival spokesperson.

“As many of you are aware Le Comite de Jumelage de Les Herbiers have contributed to our Food Festival for the last three years bringing a fine selection of Vendee food and wine products for Newtown People to enjoy.  This year we have organised a much bigger event called The French Village.”

The Festival Kitchen will feature returning chefs Turon Miah and Roger Stevens and new chefs James Sherwin and James Corbett.

Community contributors include Mandy Star’s budget meals, Zarena Allan’s children’s cooking and A Voice for You Can Cook.

“The Children’s Village will be full of activities with workshops, a woodland classroom, face painting, costume making and the popular Mad Hatter’s Tea Party. A packed schedule throughout the weekend will keep all ages entertained,” said the spokesperson.

“The Gulshan Restaurant and Turon Miah are very supportive of the Newtown Food Festival.  This year along with running demonstrations in the Festival Kitchen at 3.30pm he has very kindly agreed to bring his restaurant along to the Festival Field to a Pop-Up restaurant on the Saturday.  The first service starts at 5.30pm, with the possibility of a second service at 7.30pm.

“Turon is selling tickets from the restaurant in town. Only a limited number of spaces are available so hurry to the Gulshan to secure your seat for the Saturday evening where you can dine undercover listening to the Festival Music and enjoy some of Turon's excellent dishes.”

The Music Stage has a full programme and the Saturday Evening Stage, 7pm until Midnight, will feature Paul Daffurn with Paul Cobbold, Roma Pomona and The Smile. A bar with food to go will be open during the evening.

Sue Newham, Mayor of Newtown and Llanllwchaiarn, said: “I want to thank the Elephant and Castle for being a main sponsor of this year's Food Festival. James' lamb dish looked absolutely amazing and I am looking forward to his demonstration in the hi-tech Festival Kitchen, which will be in use for the first time at our event."
