Glyn retains Montgomeryshire

The Conservatives have retained Montgomeryshire at the election with an increased majority, receiving 18,075 votes, up 6.8 per cent on the 2015 election, giving Glyn Davies a 9,285 majority.

Jane Dodds of the Liberal Democrats saw a drop of 4.1 per cent with 8,760 votes, while Labour's Iwan Jones saw a jump of 10.3 per cent in votes for the party to 5,542.

Glyn Davies retains the seat for the Conservatives and will return to Westminster to represent the seat on Tuesday.

Turnout was high with 70.1 per cent of people eligible to vote placing a cross on the ballot paper.

The Liberal Democrats who once considered Montgomeryshire a safe seat were one of two parties to see a drop in votes compared to 2015, with Richard Chaloner of the Green Party receiving 524 votes, down 2.2 per cent.

Plaid Cymru's Aled Hughes received 1,960 votes, up 0.4 per cent on 2015.

In total, the Conservatives saw their vote share in Montgomeryshire increase by 6.8 per cent to 51.8 percent. But it was Labour that saw a significant increase of 10.3 per cent, giving it a 15.9 per cent share. The Liberal Democrats share fell by 4.1 per cent, taking a 25.2 per cent share, with Plaid Cymru seeing a slight increase of 0.4 per cent, giving the party a 5.6 per cent share. The Green Party took a 1.5 per cent share, dropping 2.2 per cent on 2015.
