A new air ambulance has arrived in the area for emergency call outs.

The Wales Air Ambulance has taken delivery of a new Airbus H145 helicopter which is larger than its predecessor, the EC135, allowing medics to perform more treatments on the lifesaving aircraft.

It is based at the Montgomeryshire Mid Wales Airport near Welshpool where an air ambulance has been based since 2006.

It has also been confirmed that on average each call out by the air ambulance costs £1,500.

“The new helicopter is the third generation, each being larger and carrying more equipment than its predecessor,” said a spokesperson at the airport.

“The larger body allows more procedures to be carried out in the air as well as travelling further and faster.”
