Resident blasts litter and dog poo in Newtown

17/03/2017 @ 06:20

A Newtown resident is so fed up with litter and dog mess in the town he has set up a web site about it and is calling for community action to deal with it.

Mark Barnes said he was appalled at the mess he finds on walks around the town.

He has created a webpage of photos taken on one single Sunday morning to highlight the blight on the town.

He said: :“After discussing with residents in the area, more than 50 per cent offered dog mess and litter and their top day-to-day concern about life in Newtown”.

“This issue is easily addressed as there is no excuse for leaving dog mess and litter anywhere in Newtown.  Just put it in the one of the plethora of litter and dog mess bins that there are in Newtown or take it home.”

He believes that a community approach of shaming dog mess litter ‘deserters’ will start to make a small shift in behaviour which, in time will grow in momentum.

Mark is calling for concerned residents and dog owners to meet at the entrance to Dolerw Park in Milford Road at 6pm on Thursday, 23 March for a series of photo opportunities to highlight the issue.

Additionally, Mark is offering to drive the campaign and is asking for ideas for a name for the campaign and for someone to come up with an inspirational logo.

More can be found about Mark’s Sunday walk in Newtown at www.at-arwel.co.uk/clean-up-newtown/ and if you can volunteer to help drive the campaign, Mark can be contacted on 07590 005692 or by email on newtown@reviveandthrive.co.uk
