Wind turbine convoys make final delivery

Traffic congestion will be a little easier in Newtown and along the A483 after it emerged the final delivery of wind turbine components has been delivered to the Garreg Lwyd Hill Wind Farm.

The last delivery was made by windfarm operators RES on Friday, following police escorted convoys since September along the A483, through Newtown and along the Dolfor Road.

The delivery of 136 saw specially adapted lay-bys and even a road off the Mochdre Industrial Estate in Newtown created.

Each convoy began its journey at Liverpool Dock, using the motorway network to Chester and then the A55, A5, A489 and A483 trunk roads to the wind farm site.

“RES would like to thank residents and businesses along the delivery route for their co-operation throughout the delivery process and to publicly thank Welsh Government Highways, Powys County Council Highways, Shropshire County Council Highways, Cheshire Police and Dyfed-Powys Police for their invaluable assistance before and throughout the delivery period,” said an RES spokesperson.

“The wind farm is scheduled to be fully operational by spring 2017 with construction work making good progress.”
