Yellow brick road enters Newtown

Newtown Musical Theatre Company's production of 'The Wizard of Oz' has started in Newtown until Saturday.

The production had its opening night at Theatr Hafren on Wednesday and it runs each night at 7.30pm until Saturday. A matinee performance will also be held on Saturday at 2.30pm.

 

"This is the RSC version of 'The Wizard of Oz', which is based on the well-loved film, and which features all the well-known songs from the film, including 'Somewhere Over the Rainbow', 'Ding Dong the Witch is Dead' and 'We're Off to See the Wizard'," said a theatre company spokesman.

 

The part of Dorothy will be shared by two local schoolgirls. Josephine Bowen, who lives in Newtown and attends Caereinion High School, will play the part on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday evening, and Katy Collins, who lives in Montgomery and attends Newtown High School, will play the part on Thursday evening and Saturday afternoon. They will be joined by Bertie the dog, who will play the part of Toto in all performances.
